Maria Fredericks lives in Kalumburu Community with her family where she helps care for children and also works at the Strong Women’s Centre. Maria is a Wunambal Gaambera woman and is a traditional owner for Kingana country in the North Kimberley region.

Maria first held a camera and started taking photos in 2017 as part of the Olympus Vision Project and is now supported by Enterprise Partnerships WA. Since then Maria has continued to practice and learn her craft, heading out on country to capture the land surrounding Kalumburu. Maria also loves taking portraits and telling stories through these images.

"It's something I feel, I can't explain it. I see something and I need to take an image of it, I get excited, I like to create something. I want to go back to my country one day (Kinganna - North Kimberley). Photos give a feeling for country, you take it and you have the memory forever. I like learning how to tell stories through photography." Maria Fredericks
